Restaurant Manager -Seasonal

Season: Mid-May through Mid-October 2027

The National is a high-volume seafood and steak restaurant located in the heart of downtown Block

Island. Our restaurant seats approximately 200 guests and serves lunch and dinner daily, with

volumes reaching up to 1,200 guests per day during the height of the summer season.

Our ownership and management team has been operating businesses on Block Island for more than 45 years, with a strong reputation for consistency, organization, and quality.

The Position

The Restaurant Manager will work closely with the front of house team to oversee the day-to-day

operation of the restaurant and maintain a high standard of hospitality and service. The restaurant manager educates and supports the service team to create the best dining experience for all guests and the best work environment and experience for all employees.

This is a hands-on position requiring approximately 60 hours per week, six days per week during the summer season. The Restaurant Manager is expected to lead by example, be on the floor during service, and step in wherever needed to support the team. Housing and meals are provided on site, and the position requires living on Block Island for the duration of the summer season.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain excellence and cleanliness of the restaurant

Maintain positive working relationships with kitchen leaders and line staff throughout

service periods, ensuring effective and timely communication

Continuously provide support to all service staff and actively participate in service

Remain current and compliant with the correct HR practices and policies, holding

employees accountable to all standards and practices, evaluating and/or disciplining

when necessary

Ensure DOL/Health Department compliance

Lead daily lineups and educate staff on menu and service best practices

Provide feedback and guidance with hospitality in mind

Qualifications

2+ years experience in hospitality, management experience preferred

Excellent food and beverage knowledge

Strong passion for coaching and education of team members

Excellent communication skills

English fluency required

The Bodega will be open all winter and we need one more person to complete the team!

We are hiring a part time kitchen prep / cashier. Ideally, this person would work in the kitchen the first half of the morning and then transition to work the register and help customers in the afternoon.

•Some kitchen experience is required

•Must be good with people and a team player

•Must be able to lift 50 lbs

•Must be familiar with using a POS system

•Must be available all winter

The shifts we need are on Sundays and Mondays, with the possibility to pick up other shifts as well.
