The Block Island Historical Society is seeking applicants for an Executive Director. 

 

Founded in 1945, the Block Island Historical Society is a small organization with a big future, dedicated to collecting, preserving, educating, and advocating for the history of Block Island, Rhode Island. Through exhibitions, programs, and the stewardship of our historic building, archives, artifacts, and stories, we strive to make Block Island’s history relevant, engaging, and deeply connected to the present. 

Position Overview 

The Executive Director provides strategic and financial leadership while overseeing day-to-day operations, project management, and community engagement. This role works closely with the Board of Directors to advance the Society’s mission and ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of its collections and programs. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide organizational leadership and strategic planning 

  • Manage daily operations, staff and volunteer recruitment, hiring, and supervision 

  • Oversee budgeting, financial management, and reporting 

  • Lead grant writing, fundraising, and donor relations

EDUCATION COORDINATOR

 

Reports to: CEO 

Part-time, with opportunity to expand hours

The Education Coordinator is responsible for managing all clinical education programs and training activities for BIHS. This role serves as the primary liaison with medical institutions, oversees clinical rotations, and ensures high-quality educational experiences for residents, medical students, and clinical partners.

 

Responsibilities Include: 

 

Stakeholder & Program Management

  • Maintain strong, ongoing relationships with established medical institutions and clinical 
    education partners.

  • Identify and cultivate new education program prospects to strategically enhance BIHS’s 
    position as a clinical training site.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Coordinate schedules for residents and medical students to ensure appropriate coverage and 
    smooth clinic rotation operations.

  • Oversee weekly clinical rounds and educational sessions with providers, residents, and students.

Training & Event Oversight

  • Organize the annual interagency training involving BIHS, BIVFD, and EMS.

  • Ensure thorough discussions and formal debriefs are conducted with relevant departments 
    following major clinical or operational events.

General Support

  • Assist with additional organizational projects or initiatives as assigned by the CEO.

I need some help one day a week which varies for setting up and breaking down luxury beach picnics. www.sandandseaevents.com Set up is usally around 4:00 and breakdown around 8:00 or 9:00 pm depending on the location and timing of events. These picnics are for 2 - 12 guests and take approximately 1 1/2 hours to set up and break down. There is a 3 hour gap between set up and breakdown while guests enjoy their picnic. Also food delivery to picnics may be needed. $30.00 per hour incudes light lifting of pillows, candles, pulling wagon down sandy beach. Sediment

Sediment is hiring for a few different positions this summer. These are all land positons (you will not be needed on the lobster boat). Please feel free to forward this to any college aged or older friends/family you may have. We do not provide housing. This is our website.

1. Full Time: We are looking for a full time employee this summer from mid-june to the end of Sept to help with our catering events on the island. You must be able to commit to September. This person will become familiar with every aspect of our catering events and at times lead an event while managing support staff. This position is 5-6 evenings per week from around 4pm - 9pm. $26 per hour. You must be able to lift tables and chairs.

2. Freelancer MAINLAND: We are looking to add 2-3 more freelancers to our mainland catering team this year. This gig is flexible - you can decide what events to work. You will be working on the mainland in the South County area. Pay is based on the size/timing of the event that you work. Ideal candidate has service industry experience. Must be able to lift tables/chairs.  ***IF YOU SHUCK OYSTERS WE WILL PAY extra and cherish you :)

3. Freelancer ISLAND: We are looking to add 1 or 2 more freelancers to our Island catering team this year. This gig is flexible but inconsistent - we mostly will need you for larger events and weddings as a food runner. Super easy way to make quick cash. The Block Island Chamber of Commerce is seeking to build a roster of qualified communications service providers to help the Chamber and its members address their marketing and communications needs, particularly in advertising and social media. We aim to create a vetted roster of service providers to share with our members, engage for Chamber communications needs, and potentially broker services on behalf of member businesses.  We also hope that some of these providers will become members of the Chamber so that we can help you to promote your services more broadly.
Scope of Services

Block Island Visitors Center

The Visitors Center is hiring Tourism Ambassadors to staff the Visitors Center for the 2026 Season. If you like to talk to people and have some fun, this is the role for you!

 

As a Tourist Ambassador you will greet Island visitors and provide them information and guidance to help them enjoy their visit to Block Island. Knowledge of the Island is needed, but there is training, literature, and senior staff available to assist. You will greet visitors in person and answer phones. 

 

This is a great first-time job for a student or a perfect role for a retiree. This is a fun position! So many interesting people stop in and ask for assistance.

 

The Visitors Center is generally opened in the season 7 days a week from 9 am to 5 pm. Being able to work at least one shift on the weekend is a big bonus. Most Ambassadors work between 15-25 hours a week (3-5 shifts), but more hours are available. If you have another job, we will try to work with your schedule.

 

Currently looking to fill 2 positions as we have some returning Ambassadors. Work would start in May. No housing is available.
