There is no better example of Block Island Maritime’s focus on maritime-related educational programs for children and adults than the bi-weekly Harbor Tours. The hour-long excursion in Oldport Marine’s specially-designed launch is focused on the history and present day information concerning Great Salt Pond -- Block Island’s jewel. Tours include information and discussion ranging from the days of the indigenous people’s encampments on the shores to Block Island’s modern day surge in aquaculture and feature interesting material from both above and below the surface of the water. These tours are a great way to start the day and are usually scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 AM. Reservations are required because of their popularity and children under 5 ride free. The Hula Dog is a 27ft Shamrock with an in-board engine. The vessel has high gunnels with wrap around padding and a spacious back deck. Since its a center console you can cast off the bow and move around the boat freely. Matt also has a flats boat for fly fishing and stalking bass in the shallows.

The Boat Basin, or “middle marina”, is a full service marina located at the head of the harbor, just west of the main channel. Not only does it serve as home for the marina guests, the Boat Basin is also the drop-off point for Oldport Marine Services, a launch service for the harbor and for guests headed to all points Block Island. the guest amenities include; ship's store, docking assistance, trash pick up, dock carts, toilets, showers, pump out and ice.
