Block Island Maritime Institute
Address: 216 Ocean Avenue, Block Island, RI
There is no better example of Block Island Maritime’s focus on maritime-related educational programs for children and adults than the bi-weekly Harbor Tours. The hour-long excursion in Oldport Marine’s specially-designed launch is focused on the history and present day information concerning Great Salt Pond -- Block Island’s jewel. Tours include information and discussion ranging from the days of the indigenous people’s encampments on the shores to Block Island’s modern day surge in aquaculture and feature interesting material from both above and below the surface of the water. These tours are a great way to start the day and are usually scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 AM. Reservations are required because of their popularity and children under 5 ride free. Please check the latest information for schedules.
